86 1200I-Replacing Rear Shocks

Postby jpmurphy » Wed Oct 22, 2014 8:27 pm

I read the how to tech section on this procedure and it said that if you have the on board air compressor to use this system to remove the air from the OEM shocks prior to removal. I have (maybe stock) air shocks and no compressor on board.

My question: Do you release all of the air pressure from the shocks before removing them ? It seems to me that you would, but I wanted to make sure before I started. None of my manuals fully explain this step.

Many thanx.

I've never bothered with this step - once I removed the hoses, the air came out on its own, long before the shocks were removed. But yes, you will want to do this, if for no other reason to keep the shock from expanding and making it easier to remove.
