air assist in forks

i have just replaced the fork seals on my 1986 gl1200 aspencade does the air assist in the forks sort itself out when i run the bike or do i have to put air in, any help greatly appreciated

You have to add the air yourself.. Some models have onboard compressors that you can use and others require you to use an external compressor. Be very carefull using an external compressor, the volume of air required is very small and you can easily blow the fork seal if you put too much pressure in the forks. Someone with specific 1200 knowledge will be along shortly to give you an exact answer.

Actually, on the Aspencade, it has a built-in compressor, and all you have to do is hold down the "Front" button and "Increase" at the same time (while the bike is on the center stand) and it will run the compressor and inflate the suspension. These are from the 1985 owner's manual, the 1986 is essentially the same.
