LTD turn signals

Postby goldtr6c » Fri Jun 11, 2010 10:51 pm

The turn signals on my '85 LTD quit working completely. Does anybody out there have a test procedure for canceling unit located in the fork stem? I'm begining to like the Lucas system on my old Triumph more and more. Willie

All the canceling system does is activate a solenoid inside the actual turn signal switch. If the signals have quit entirely, it's not very likely that it has anything to do with the canceler - it's more likely a failed flasher relay, or perhaps (less likely) a fuse somewhere. I'd look in that direction first.

If it was Lucas, it wouldn't have quit entirely, it would work intermittently, and would flicker dimly at other times.

Clean out of the switch would be a starting point for me.

I would bet it's the turn signal flasher. It has a printed circut inside it and works when it wants too. My 84 1200I has the same flasher my V65 did and they both had the same problem. I switched it over to a flasher/relay and the problem was cured.
How many times do I have to tell ya,,, The right tool for the right job!

I switched the turn flasher with the 4-way flasher. It worked in 4-way position. This is one that realy has me stumped. I got my old 82 back on the road so now I can take my time and do it right. We had the eye of huricane "Ike" come over the house and take our roof with it. All the bikes sat laying on their sides in muddy water for over a week. I've been working on them ever since. Almost two years.
