Front Caliper pistons stuck

Postby louwortel » Sat Jun 12, 2010 10:01 am

I just bought an 87 gl1200 interstate. Ordered new brake pads and started to install them this morning. Cleaned everything with brake cleaner. I used a wrench and c-clamp to depress the pistons. Without thinking beyond getting this done ASAP I really jammed those pistons into the caliper. Well now both pistons are stuck. If I pull the brake lever nothing happens. Stupid, why yes. Now how will I ever brake these loose. Any suggestions.

Are you saying you pull the brake lever and the lever won't move, or the lever goes right to the handlebar and nothing happens?

What I ended up doing was to attach a scrap high pressure brake line to the caliper with the banjo bolt. Then I cut the other end off and used my air gun to shoot compressed air into the caliper. After a number of attempts the piston came out.
