from what I have found out about these systems is most likely you have a bad connection, a poor or no ground or a bad fuse. I cant think of anything else that would stop power from getting to ECU.

Number 14 red with black trace is 12v live all other wires into ceu are 12v negative.

I'll look this evening at the schematic to locate the color code wire you refer to and post back.

Ok.im looking at a schematic for a fuel injected 1985 wing
It shows pin 14(red/black) is the fuel system lamp.It would have 12 volts on it with the key on....so that one is OK.
Now.....Fuse 5 (10 amp) feeds power to the kill switch on a black/light green...it leaves the switch on a black/white wire. This wire feeds power to the coils and relay #4 (cfi main relay). When you turn on the key..relay #4 should click on...When it does click, power from fuse#9(15 amp) is fed through the relay to the white wire on the ECM pin #19 and #1.
Relay will not click if the fuel pump shutoff sensor is bad, kill switch is bad, fuse is blown or the relay is dead.

If you have 12 volts on the coils, the black/white wire is OK.Ill look for more tests. What problem did you find.?

How can i put this? Lack of knowledge after checking everything out it was found that the fuel pump shutoff sensor was upside down
But learned a lot doing it

At least you know if you turn the bike upside down, the ignition will shut off.... :D
Back to the problem...Do the lights cycle a test mode on the module.?They should come on for 1.5 seconds when the key is turned on.

Great..at least the ECM is getting power. After you attempt to start it again ,look again at the lights..Do not turn the key off...They will light up or blink if there is any fault with the system.
If they are on, take note of what they do.
Did you mention that there's no spark.?
Should there be a problem with the crank sensors or engine speed sensor (which would kill the ignition) it would show on the ECM indicators...Remember..don't turn off the key before you look at the lights..
About the only thing the lights don't test is if the spark units are ....uh...unplugged.??.You have volts on the coils and volts on the ECM,the only thin between them is the 2 spark units...

I have attempted to start it no lights came on the ecm. So is there any way of testing the spark units?
thanks

Not had a chance to get back to the goldwing for a while but had a little look again today and went through checking things again and found the voltage at the crank sensor and pulse genarators to be 0.74v and also on the same wires at the ecu it is 0.74v does anybody have any idea what is likely to be causing this? Many thanks in advance

Besides the 2 pulse coils on the blue-blue/white and blue-yellow/white..there is a engine speed sensor.. it's on a yellow and white wire.It goes to pins 6 and 25.
