Engine oil leak

Post by newfierider » Sat Feb 28, 2015 11:09 am

Has anyone ever seen a GL1200 engine block leaking from some of these fine cracks seen in the older blocks. Bought another bike this past summer and after more investigation discovered that a previous owner had some type of black sealant spread over the front left portion on top of the engine beneath the carburetor body. Was thinking of fabricating a nipple to screw into the oil fill plug and pump some air into the block and spray some soapy water on top of the engine to see if it bubbles up. I haven't yet tried to change the seals on the small oil line there but it doesn't seem to be coming from there. Only a small amount of oil but enough to make a mess. It even blows down to my right boot while driving. Had to keep a shop towel tucked into the block to soak up the oil while driving.
