Gas gauge

Postby JAcossey » Wed Mar 25, 2015 7:16 pm

I have a 1985 LTD. With a couple of things I could use help with. 1. My cruise doesnt work. Lights come on but will not engage. 2. My gas gage is working when i fill up and then after about 75 miles it goes blank. Then, when i get down to about a 1/4 tank it comes back on. Any help on these??

I'll start guessing.
The cruise...it's being activated but the mechanism that operates the throttle is malfunctioned...or the unit that controls it.
Fuel sending unit needs repair or replacing...midrange has a dead spot that tells the display the tank is empty.

Ok thanks. Do you know if the fuel sending unit on the ltd will be the same as the interstate? I found one on eBay.

I truly do not know.Do a part number search for both.Same number same part.
Be aware that a used one may not be in better shape than yours.
Personally I'd check what you have before buying anything.
It really should be removed from the tank and tested to verify it is bad.if it does have that dead spot,I'd be tempted to remove the cover and see if it can be repaired.there really a simple thing.A float connected to a moving arm with a wiper moving up and down a piece of resistance wire.
