1987 Aspencade Fuel Petcock & Clutch Parts

Postby TKBarnes » Mon Apr 06, 2015 9:53 am

The fuel petcock on my 1987 Aspencade GL1200A is leaking. I have been unable to find a new petcock or a rebuild kit.
Also, I have been unable to find all of the friction discs and clutch plates to rebuild the clutch.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a link to Randakk's Cycle Shakk kit for 1000, 1100 and "early" 1200 model petcock rebuild parts. If your motorcycle has 1/4" fuel line, these parts will work on the petcock. I don't know a source for the other parts, as they're getting hard to find. You might try Ebay.

http://randakks.com/collections/honda-g ... master-kit

I saw a clutch basket for a 1200, with discs (if I recall correctly) on Ebay last week for like 15$ ... good luck!
I am wrong as often as I am right concerning what is wrong with someone else' motorcycle without having seen the machine in person. Guessing with limited information, as to the source of the trouble, is sketchy at best.

Thank you for the reply Hawkeye!
Unfortunately, the part listed on Randakks specifically says it is not for the 1987 model or the 1986 model that uses the 3/8" fuel hose. I'll be checking on ebay for both parts.
Thanks again!

Better advice: Don't buy ANYTHING from Saber Cycle. :)

A technician friend of mine suggested drilling out the rivets that hold the petcock together. After drilling them out he simply rotated the disc that is inside the petcock 180°, drilled and tapped the holes for machine screws and viola! NO more leaking petcock!
I bought a clutch basket on e-bay. My technician friend disassembled both clutches to check the plates and friction discs with a micrometer. It turned out that the original set was actually thicker than the replacement set. Both sets being good I now have a good replacement set should I ever need one.
Thank you all for your input.
