Stator ?

Postby shadow1k9 » Sun Apr 19, 2015 6:40 pm

Hi Just replaced the stator in my 84 GL 1200, that was fun, not. Viewed a number of videos on the operation, testing, etc and found it did not fix my non charging problem. First off, if you decide to do the work yourself, test the new one before you put it in, I failed to this and now I do not know if I got a faulty one or not. My question is this: If you test each leg for continuity as shown in the videos, and get a reading of .6 across the board, test for grounding and that also shows good, then why would one leg show it was not charging at the 60/70 volt rate? Thanks for you time

Checking for continuity is not really a good indicator on it's own.You don't really know what's going to happen when it gets to operating temps for one thing. For another there may be just a good enough connection to show continuity, but not a good enough connection to carry the current load.If the new stator is no good I hope the manufacturer is going to pay your time to do it over again.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.
