Haynes GL1200 1984 - 1987 > 1200cc Chapter 7,13.12

Postby Alemayehu » Tue Apr 21, 2015 5:24 pm

Hi every one I was reading the manual as I try to mention above I just came across about the entire wheel replacement once the dampers are worn.Is there any why to change the dampers if they are worn or no way to replace them once worn out? I am a little bit concerned about pooping sound comes after the first gear planning to find out what it is.I don't know if one or two of the bushing get worn? Please give me an answer as usual.
Thank you and God bless all.

The bushings are cast into the wheel, they do not come out for replacement.

I would be taking a hard look at the universel joint in the drive shaft and also the splines on the drive shaft and differential hub splines for excessive play from loss of lubrication.

Hi WINGER3 thank you for your advice,I did remove the rear wheel and chuck every thing, of course the PO did nothing I would imagine it was dry & clogged and lucky the spleen and the shaft was in good shape cleaned it 100% and re-grease it using Honda Moly 60,change the gear box oil as well but still the popping sound come every first gear and it is directly from under the center of the seat. Ant help and advice is much appreciated.
Thank you & God bless!

When exactly does the noise occur? When accelerating? Decelerating? If you pull the clutch in, does it go away?

Thank you WingAdmin here you come,I hope solution is at the corner, the only time it does is only when I start accelerating to move just after the first gear engaged.I feel it right from the bottom center of the seat it is quiet hard to describe but I can say if you know what I mean it is a kind of dull sound like popping sound not some kind of sharp or ear piercing noise.

Thank you and God bless!

I would have a look at the U-joint on the driveshaft. When they start to wear and fail, they show it by exhibiting a clunking when under heavy load (i.e. accelerating).
