I started a thread way back when on timing belts. If I recall, most responded saying the task was quite simple. I will follow the step by step and take my time. I have read on Steve Saunders forum that if you don't have the feel for setting the correct tension on these, let a pro do it.
What is your take on that? Can't I just simply feel the tension on the current belts and remember that for the new.
Any added info is appreciated. Looks as if the rest is strait forward, lining up the marks and such.

The Honda service manual says to adjust so that the belt deflection will be 1/8-3/16" with 4.4 lb of pressure applied to the belt. The 1500 DIY section has an article on belt replacement and that procedure is used. I replaced my belts a couple of years ago and followed the advice of a retired Honda mechanic. He said when you can twist the belt about 90 degrees on the longest expanse of belt, the tension will be about right.

The old belt will look new but has stretched and therefor it will have less tension then the new one needs. Follow the instructions of 1/8 to 3/16 or even the 90 degree twist and you will be OK, also remember after doing the left side and pre-doing the right side, rotate the crank so the right side has turned 180 degrees and now re adjust the tensionon on the right, otherwise it will be to loose and you will get a slapping sound from the timming belt on the right (don't ask why I know) and it can through the timming off and maybe even the belt. good luck and take your time.
