Got hit Sunday

Postby sportsfreaked » Tue Apr 28, 2015 7:06 pm

Well I had an idiot hit me on Sunday afternoon. Everyone is OK and I didn't lay the bike down but he did crack my right hand side saddlebag and lid. Of course the guy didn't have any freaking insurance. I found a very good saddlebag on Ebay but I can't find a lid anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas as who might have one? My bike was new 2 me 2 weeks old and it was in perfect condition until Sunday. Luckily I saw him pulling out and was able to speed up so he just got the saddlebag and not my sons leg!

Thanks to all who answer and help. It is greatly appreciated!

Which side Ed? I mean which side, the right side or the left side sitting on the bike?

I got hit on the right side. I have googled to my fingers are down to the bone. The only other option is to get a gl1200 right side lid and then paint it.

hey sports, sorry to hear about your accident, but happy to hear you and your son are ok. i know a place that you might be able to find what your looking for if you cant find them anywhere else. they have a lot of g/w parts and its where i go to get some of mine. they are good people to deal with and they give parts at decent prices. http://www.autocyclers.com/ i don't know what it would cost to have it shipped to you, but you could give them a call and see if they have your parts. i could give them a call to find out id they have a lid for your saddlebag if you'd like. let me know.

Hey guys thanks for the replies so far. I am going to check out the places you suggested.

If he would have hit my kid it would have been a different story. I would probably be in jail :(. The fact that he took off and I had to go catch him I knew he wouldn't have insurance. He did call me last night to inform me he would have $200.00 for me on Wednesday night. I figured the damage to be $450.00.

Glad you were successful!

It's a shame you even had to go through that. Here, driving without insurance is a BIG deal (insurance is government only, and mandatory). Getting caught without it means a hefty passel of fines, a very unpleasant encounter with the police (including the automotive equivalent of a proctologist's exam - "Say, I've noticed that your turn signals don't flash between 60 and 120 times a minute and, while we're at it, I noticed your interior aisle illumination lamp is out. What a shame - this is going to get expensive!") and the distinct likelihood of a 5 or 10 year ban from driving.

That said, I do carry the (optional) government "underinsured motorist" protection rider, which guarantees me up to $2 million in coverage.

It's the same here in the states. The problem was if I called the cops he would have received a ticket for no insurance, no license, leaving the scene of an accident, and who knows what else then I would have never seen any money from him. He did pay me $180.00 tonight and he said he would have the rest in about 3 weeks. I told him I would work with him up to a point and if he didn't follow thru then he would be sorry ;).

I have a right and left side lids in good shape, except for the three holes from the chrome bars that used to be on them. They are champagne color. I took the chrome off and put them on my wife's black lids after I got hit on the right side and totaled mine. You can have the cover if you want, with the holes in them I don't see them being worth listing on Ebay to sell. Still has the latches on it too. Oh yea, off an 84 Aspy.

I have purchased several parts from Woodbine Cycle Salvage in Woodbine Iowa. Parts are always as described and priced well. You can get their number if you Goolge the name. They also sell on eBay but I always call them.
