Speedometer died

Post by jtprouty » Tue Apr 28, 2015 7:54 pm

Hi All,

Had a weird thing happen to my speedometer. I noticed that my speed was off and it eventually was consistently 10 MPH slow. Today it finally dropped to 0 and the odometer stopped working as well. It never made any weird sounds (like a cable was failing) so I don't know where to start troubleshooting. Any guess as to what part may have failed or where to start? I have a GPS based speedometer on my phone so it's not a major issue. It also has over 156K miles on it so not too concerned about the odometer being 100% correct right now either.

Thanks for your help,

9 times out of 10 it's the cable that breaks, but it could also be the drive on the wheel. First thing to do is to pull the cable off and check it.
