News tires on the GL1200

Postby HawkeyeGL1200 » Mon May 04, 2015 11:50 am

I replaced the tires on my 1200 (did the rear tire two weeks ago, and the front today) with a set of Kenda Kruz tires that I bought almost a year ago. They've been stored inside... I bought them in anticipation of having to chage tires a lot more often than I've had to (so far)... The rear was changed at 79,600 miles and the front at 81,390... so I'll keep an eye on them and report back on the performance if it appears there's any interest in them. I do like how the rear feels under me... more than how I liked the Dunlop E3, for "feel" ... I don't have anything negative to say about the E3 (other than the noise) as I rode it for right at 17,000 miles and it was on the bike when I bought it.

That's all.

I am wrong as often as I am right concerning what is wrong with someone else' motorcycle without having seen the machine in person. Guessing with limited information, as to the source of the trouble, is sketchy at best.

after about 3500 miles on the rear tire, I can say it is wearing well. The ride is a little less smooth in the curves than on some other tires I've run. It does make a little noise, kind of like the same way the E3 used to woop a little when you lean it, but overall I think it is a decent tire for the cost... enough so that I bought another set of them to have on hand when these wear out. They do ride fairly well, grip well enough on wet and dry pavement alike, and I can't find anything to complain about.

On another note, I ordered a set of Spitfire S11 tires for the GL1100. I have completely worn out a Shinko Tourmaster 230 tire in about 5000 miles on the rear, and won't be buying those again despite their higher load rating than the spitfires... I'll be mounting the S11's soon and will report back on how they ride and wear as time goes on.

I went with the Shinko Tourmaster 230 on my last change. The rear looks about 1/3 worn in 5000 kms. So it should last three years for me which is a nice interval. Quiet smooth riding grippy and cheap.
