Turning steering wheel shuts bike down

Postby Kronoz » Tue May 12, 2015 5:38 pm

Hey guy´s new here and to the world of the Wing

My problem is i start the bike and if i turn the steering wheel to the right the bike shuts down it´s like it kills all electric power to the bike.

1. idea i had is just something in the ignition since it does not happen all the time
2. idea is that some faulty wire but when i shake the wires and move them nothing happens

any of you guy´s have some ideas for me

Bike is a 1984 GL1200 Aspencade with 16,000 miles

Hello Kronoz, welcome to the Goldwing world. When you rotate the steering wheel you're also rotating the ignition switch. Take the plastic off under the switch and remove things and have a look. I'd bet you've got a loose plug contact on the ignition switch connector. While you're in there, take a good look for signs of heat, melted or distorted plastic the plug body is made of. If it really is a loose connection, there could also be a lot of heat involved. You may also be looking at replacing the switch assembly. Depends on what you find when you get in there. Also, make sure the dome light goes out when you close the door.

Wrong discussion, that was for the one where old fridges were turned into trailers :!:

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

It can also be a loose connector, or a wire that is getting pinched/shorted against the frame.

There was a recall order from Honda about the 84s for a bad ignition switch. My 84 would do the same thing and it will get worse, you will probably need to get a newer ignition switch. I was lucky and had another to replace it with I dont know if Honda will get you a new one but you can find some on E Bay.
