did you check the dog bone fuse? when old they will sometimes heat up and separate so you have no power. once cool the fuse makes contact and will restart and run until it gets heated again

When it dies, how does it die? Like it's being suddenly shut off? Does it stumble like cylinders are missing? Or does it gradually lose power like it's running out of gas?

Also, when it quits like this, try opening the gas cap and see if it comes right back to life.

well i did not open gas cap but i did pull of fuel line and crank over ..it shot out fuel with lot of air or that is what looked like to me ..it dies instantly and lights and fan all stay on when it dies ..........just stops running with no warning

Typically when it "dies suddenly like it was shut off" you're looking for an electrical issue. If it slowly stumbles to a halt like it's running out of gas, it's a fuel delivery issue.

The first thing I would check when it dies is ignition and kill switch - wiggle them both. Do the same with any electrical connectors that you can reach, including those in and around the battery. After each wiggle, see if the bike will start. You're looking for anything with a poor connection that would cause the engine to quit, so ignition, battery power, are the kinds of things we're hunting for.
