possible (probable) manifold leaks

Post by naked84 » Sat May 23, 2015 7:21 pm

Gentlemen;
I am currently trying to track down leaks in the air intake system with WD-40/carb cleaner applied around any gasketed fittings, noticing changes in RPM indicating leakage. Are any associated parts available from other than Mother Honda because the part numbers don't appear in her system anymore.
I am getting a backfire/burp upon decellerating and suspect an intake issue.
It's a 1984 standard, may be in need of sync, but as noted in these forums, other models

and years may have suitable alternative parts.
Any info is certainly appreciated! Thanks!
P.S. 17110-MG9-000 and 17160-MG-9-000 are oem part numbers.
Carmine

Backfire could be related to unburnt fuel in the exhaust - and you are running rich on one or more cylinders.
Is the exhaust sooty and black? What are the spark plug colours like? Do you just make short trips or longer runs?

If you suspect intake issues - try and identify exactly where the leak/s are - then source the parts for that area, or repair/remedy the problem with some sealer/gasket cement.

Thanks Aussie. I have been on trips of 10-50 miles lately, nothing very long. The sound is not a" pop" but more like a "pffft". I did some searching and located the "o" rings but not the boots. The morning will be a good time to tackle the issue being on "holiday" Sun. and Mon. I will post results.
