85 aspencade charging issues

Postby peterpan » Mon Jun 28, 2010 6:47 pm

bike came out of storage (heated) within a month battery was fried, battery replaced, still not enough output to keep charged; had stator checked was told a regulator problem.tried two new regulators. stator on all 3 phases is putting out 60 plus (not hooked up to regulator) soon as regulator is plugged in the output drops to 6 on regulator, instead of the 13 to 14 output) mechanic swears that the stator is good, the odds of getting two regulators that are bad are pretty unusually . any suggestions, getting pretty frustrated

help help

thanks

Peter

It would be unlikely, but not impossible.

I would try hooking the regulator up with no load at all, so that the stator is connected to the regulator, but the regulator is connected to nothing else (other than ground! It must be grounded!). Then measure the output - perhaps something in the wiring harness that the regulator is supplying is shorted out, causing the regulator output voltage to dip so low.

The more you can isolate to identify the problem, the better.

sounds like maybe the stator conncetor and or the regulator connector most likeyly on the bike side has a problem

but even then depending on the regulator brand it could the the reg
