Register of models - does one exist?

Postby no1shunter » Thu May 28, 2015 10:43 am

I have an 1985, registered in the UK 1992, GL1200 Interstate and am having difficulty getting parts, clutch plates, gaskets and oil seals especially. Is there a register that I can access to check what year my engine is. The numbers on the frame and engine match the registration documents but when I order parts, the supplier goes on year of manufacture, they are different to what is on the bike.
I have used your site for a lot of information in the past and found it and the articles very helpful.

Thanks for your time,
Bob

Honda guards this information fairly closely, for whatever reason. As a result, there is no real registry of what VINs and what engine serial numbers are for what model/years. There have been a few attempts at creating one from owner-supplied information, but nothing really exhaustive that I've ever seen.

And on top of this, for a bunch of years they were re stamping VINs and selling year and two year old bikes as current year. The U.S. put an embargo tax on them for a few years to teach them better, but I do not know if it ever taught them anything. The tax embargo was lifted in the mid to late 1980s, so I do not know what has occured since, and your bike would fall during the embargo, I would think.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Thanks for all the advice. It looks like I've got a re - stamped later model. :o
Next problem, can any one recommend a clutch plates supplier/manufacturer that will export to the UK. :D
Thanks , Bob ;)
