carbs

Postby ddrichard » Sat May 30, 2015 4:59 pm

Hello my 1986 aspencade was fuel hydrolocking on the #2 cylinder, so I had to bite the bullet and pull carbs, it was quite the learning experience having never pulled 1200 carbs before. Not fun. Changed the float valve on leaky carb and started cleaning the rest.

I have been known to remove the seat...Using a "Q" tip and brasso....polish the seat, clean and reinstall.
I do suggest filling the carbs with a elivated resavouer of gas to verify they do shut off and there's no leaking.
Check the slide diaphragms for holes and polish the bore and slides...I used 2000 grit wet/dry paper.
Last 2 steps, mechanically set all 4 throttle levers so they open at exactly the same time..kinda of a pre-sync...
use a wet/dry vac attached to each carb pipe and operate the throttle..verify each slide moves the same...
remount and a final sync and idle down (idle mix) adjustment finishes it off...
You may have to remove the dust cap to get to the idle mix screws...
Here my saga...viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9179&p=42868&hilit=gl+1200+carb#p42868

IT'S ALIVE. Got her back together, and she runs good. Still have an exhaust leak to deal with, and still have to change oil and put the rest of Bessie back together . :D
