GL1200SEI VACCUM HOSE

Postby ggcasey » Thu Jun 04, 2015 9:00 pm

I pulled engine to clean up starter clutch and while at it changed clutch. My problen is I have a hose connection on left side top of engine in front of stator housing, that I do not know where to connect. In the picture the end of screw driver is pointing at the location. I have looked for 3 days to find it,with no luck.

Sorry I don't have one to look at but I believe that is the crankcase vent...I suspect it probably ended up at the air cleaner box ..Look around the bottom rear of the air box ..
Just guessing here...Whatever you do ...don't plug it...

I will check again. Sounds right but I have felt all around the under side. Guess I could just take the air box out and see

He may shy away, but it would be a cold day in hell that Virgil is wrong, about anything. He is an excellent "go to" source for issues with most models of GW.

Sorry.I am truly mobile for a day or so.I don't have access to any manuals.I do remember that some of the bikes had a canister that the crankcase was vented to.There should be a pix of it somewhere.

Thought I would offer up a pic I took this morning. I was wondering why the top hose no longer connected to the airbox. PO must have disconnected it. There is a grommet missing under the steel tape. I took the separator out, flushed it with hot water, and also ran water through the hose that comes up from the crankcase, and also the longer hose that vents under the bike. ('84 Aspencade). Forum members seem divided over whether the separator should be left unconnected from the airbox. Oh well, until I find a grommet, the answer is moot.

RPerry - have you resolved your issue? I was reading this thread last night. I have an '85 LTD that is similar to yours. There is no grommet in the air cleaner cover. The vacuum hose fits into the air filter through the air cleaner cover, and has the rubber grommet in the air filter - see pic:

The smaller hole is for the sensor.

Hope this helps.
