Turn off key power stays on

Postby Chuckheyboer » Sat Jun 06, 2015 11:01 pm

I have a 1984 gl1200 aspencade. When I turn off the key the accessory power stays on. Does anyone know what this might be?

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Make sure you turn the key to the 'Off' position.
You may want to check the contact base of the switch.

i had that same problem with my 83 aspy. every time i turned off the ignition switch, the power would still be on and it would kill my battery. i found out that the key switch itself was the problem and i replaced the switch and the problem was solved.

What Roadwanderer says. I've read several reports recently of this issue, and it seems to always be a worn ignition switch. You might get by for awhile by spraying inside the switch with contact cleaner & turning it on and off a bunch of times, but I suspect a new switch is in your future soon...

i tried doing that, and for a while it did correct it, but its the connector that's on the bottom of the switch that goes bad. i just looked on eBay for the switch and the connector and there's none on it.

i have a friend that owns a motorcycle salvage yard, let me find out from him if he has a switch from a wrecked 84 aspy and get a price from him and i'll let you know what i find out. if i cant get the entire switch, i might be able to get the electrical connector that's on the bottom of the switch for ya.

Not a huge fan of Saber Cycle but they list the entire switch and pigtail with plug for $179. Not cheap but it's hard to find otherwise.

if your looking for just the base for the ignition switch, here is your part number..........35104-MG9-405

here is a link to the base assembly on your ignition switch for your 84 aspy..........http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-NOS-GL120 ... df&vxp=mtr

personally i would check into this first before you go spending $179 bucks for a new ignition switch.

And, from all the reports that have posted here and elsewhere, it would have to be a cold day in Hades before people would be willing to go and order something from Saber. :o

Not to mention the very poor quality of their products.

There was another user on here who put one of the Saber Cycle ignition switches on his bike, and had it quit on him two months later - while riding, the bike just suddenly died. The switch had cracked and broken. The surprising part is that being it was from Saber Cycle, it actually lasted for two months! :)
