oil leaking.

Postby paulgugs » Thu Jun 11, 2015 3:19 pm

I have 2 , 1986 gold wings, aspencades, both bikes after starting start leaking oil on the exhaust pipes. The oil leaks on the top of the pipes under the chrome covers that are covering up the area in the back of the engine, both bikes do it, one is worst than the other, any ideas?

Use something like brake cleaner to clean up all of the oil and gunge from the engine, then dust it lightly with talcum powder. Start the bike up, and watch to see where the oil seeps from - it will be readily apparent.

i can try that but the oil is landing on the exhaust pipe right where the header pipe meets the exhaust pipe. i find it weard that i have 2 goldwings 1200 same year 1986 and the both leak in the same spot , i was wondering if i had the only bike with the same issues.

a leak on the left side could be coming from from the seal, around the gear shifter, this is a very common one, or it could be coming from the valve cover gasket another common one, or from the cam shaft rear cover gasket.

a leak on the right side could be dip stick seal, I got so frustrated with this one, I ended up putting a bolt in, again the valve cover gasket, and the rear cam shaft cover gasket all pretty common places.
