Fuel Low Lamp Relay

Postby lovat » Wed Jun 17, 2015 4:32 pm

Hey, on a GL1200I 1986, if I read the correct wiring diagram, and read it correctly, it points me to a Low Fuel Lamp Relay.

I wonder if you have any idea where to look for this thing, because, I ran out of gas.

The light never came on, but, it comes on when I put the key in, and turn it to run, at first, just like the rest of them.

And the fuel gauge works okay.
(also, if you could put gas in for me, when the needle is in the red, that would be great.)

Thank you,
Greg

Taxing the very fibers of my mental capacity....I think...Attached to the fuel level sending unit is a thermal sensor...When it's submersed in fuel,it's cool and keeps the lamp off. When the fuel level drops away from it,it heats up lowering it's resistance and lights the lamp...
I'm not certain this part is avaiable..If not,I'm sure there's a replacement component that will work...Seems like another person went through this on his bike...The Admin did on his 1500....
My 1500 had the same problem..The sensor was open..no resistance..I went the hard way and modified a float switch to light my lamp.

Look at where the float mounts to the tank. There may be 3 wires.Green is ground. One feeds the fuel gauge.Short it to ground and the needle should move. The other wire,if it has one,is the ground path for the lamp.Same thing, short it to ground and the lamp comes on.
