system not charging.

Postby Whisky » Thu Jul 02, 2015 8:03 pm

I will be working on my 1984 Goldwing this weekend and I had a question. I changed out the stator and hard wired the wires. I have checked the battery and it is not being charged. I check a diode that was easy to get to and it had no continuity in it. If there is a short in the wires will it blow my diodes? Can I do a light test when it is like this?

Here's a generic schematic..I'm not sure what diode you tested but the regulator module contains 6 diodes..It is about 4" square and a inch or so thick with a finned aluminum heat sink..It also has a large plug with 3 yellow wires,2 green wires,2 red wires and a small black wire...Check this plug for corrosion.Test the diodes with a meter. If you know how to connect it,a test lamp can be used..Electric flows just one way through a diode...you would test each one..The regulator module lives on the left side, outside the frame, just under the shelter.

question to anyone who might know, what is the little box with the electrical connecter behind the starter relay? Is it another diode? or just a relay box?

I checked the plug and it looks ok.. I tested the stator wires up to the rectifier and getting 32volts to it. There is a diode that is right next to it that has no continuity to it. Would this stop my battery from charging. I checked it and it is only going up to 12.60 volts when reeved up to 3k rpm.
