(Unusual) Aspy Top box bulbs

Postby SilverDave » Sun Jul 05, 2015 3:25 pm

Since one was blown , I decided to replace my Aspy Top Box tail/ brake lights with LED's .-- thats the large unit on the lower side of the top box with " Aspencade " written on it .

After a few troublesome screws, both 1157's were replaced with ( brighter) LED's ... Great !!
I noticed that one of the turn signals was also not working, so after a few more screws and nuts, I was down to the turn bulb(s):
I was expecting normal 1156's ... but imagine my surprise : a smallish incandescent and a Festoon bulb ...

So my questions, since I have now checked three different GL1200 manuals with no mention of these bulbs :

a) What is the wattage of these ( unmarked) bulbs if I chose to replace them with another Festoon incandescent.
( and where could I find any ). Has anyone seen these mentioned in any GL1200 manual ?

b) Can THOSE be replaced with LED's as well ?
I noticed two types of Festoon LED's on E-bay : Those with the 4 LED's IN a similar glass case, and those with 12 or 16 SMD's sitting on a flat platform . The latter would have to be orientated carefully, I guess , to shine out the back .
How many SMD LED's would actually fit in that confined space ?

c) Finally ... What was Honda thinking here, with two bulbs on each turn signal ?
Or is this "Aspencade" light box an aftermarket add-on ?

These are probably the lights that are added to the trunk.

On the page is the bulb you need. The trunk on the bike is OEM.

If anyone else has these bulbs on their Wing aftermarket top box light array :
They do not exist at most car part stores, and the internet LED replacements are too physically big to fit in the confined space .

But...
These bulbs are very common in Europe so head to your local Euro car mechanic ( VW, Volvo, Suburu, Mercedes ) and you can have your choice of boyj length and wattage ....
