Air Shocks on 87 Interstate

Postby goldwingrider » Fri Jul 10, 2015 11:39 am

I would like to know if the air shock line will have a problem before the air shock bag? Just from anyones experience with the shocks on a 1987 Interstate. It is leaking air after about 3 days.

It's usually the seals on the shocks that end up leaking, but you can find out for sure. Pump the shocks up, then take a spray bottle filled with soapy water and start spraying on and around the pump, air lines, fittings, and shocks. You should see bubbles appear wherever the air is leaking.

on the subject of rear air shocks,my 86 aspencade 1200 rear shocks hold air but there was alot of grease/grime buildup at lower mounting points leading me to believe they are now only air,no oil.anyone know of good replacement air shocks to buy and where at?thanks Jamie

They're not cheap, but you definitely cannot go wrong with Progressive 416's.

I know about Progressive shock kits, but does anybody know how to disassemble the Showa MG9-771 shock on an 1984 GL1200A? Nothing I have found tells me how to properly compress the unit for take down, or reassembly.
