Switch Question

Postby DoorCountyWI » Mon Jul 13, 2015 8:05 pm

I just purchased an 86 Aspencade this week and LOVE it! I have owned several motorcycles as well as three smaller Hondas and this bike is a real treat. While washing it today I came across a switch (at least I think it is!) that is a mystery. It is a small metal rod that comes through the dash under the front left side storage compartment (leather cover). It moves left and right and holds in place once moved. Does this have something to do with the ventilation vents to the left and right of the stereo? Thanks for any help! I have spent a few hours on this site and am very impressed.

Does it look like it's factory installed?
I had an 86 Aspy and don't remember anything like that.
As I recall, the only thing under my left fairing pocket was a solid space where the CB would be on an SE.

Thank you for the response. I just went out and looked at it. It looks like it is not factory installed (a neat job but not trim). Mystery switch! I will have to see if I can figure it out.

Go through the steps to take the side fairing panel off and see what it might be hooked to.
With some POs, you never can tell.

I also sent a PM to you.

It is more likely a fader switch for rear speakers, does your bike have rear speakers on it?

Mystery solved. The switch provides the ability to shut off all lights. Very tidy job performed by someone. Thanks for the help all.

Interesting modification.
I wonder why they felt the need to turn all of the lights off like that?
Evading the law perhaps? :D

The ability to turn off the lights could be helpful if idling in traffic for long periods.
