have just taken delivery of a 85 1200 LTD that I imported from the us . the bike took 3 weeks to get here and when I tried to start it in the port it needed booster cables to start, any how got going only to find that .
1) bike not charging at all !!
2) electric cooling fan not coming on (40 degrees c here)
3)suspension pump not pumping.

all fuses checked and O.K.
the yellow wires connector has been bypassed by the previous owner
CAN ANY ONE GUIDE ME WHERE TO START LOOKING FOR THE PROBLEM.(VIRGEL AND WING ADM I HOPE READ THIS)
COULD THE NO CHARGE BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAN NOT COMMING ON ?
ANY FORM OF HELP WOULD BE APPRICATED
THANKS FOR READING THIS TOPIC....BRIAN

When you say the yellow wires were by passed you mean they were soldered and shrink wrapped correct? If the bike is not charging at all then you have a bad stator and well it needs to be replaced or to do the alternator conversion. I say this because I assume you have checked all of the wiring and relays and fuses.

The cooling fan not coming on could be a bad switch or the connectors are not connected together. Make sure the wires from the fan are connected and that the wires to the switch are connected.

Suspension pump not pumping. Are you getting the EEE codes on the display? If you are then that could be related to the fact that you have a no charge situation with the battery going on. You will need to the the charging problem fixed first before you can address the EEE code if that's the code you are getting.
Thanks to all who answer and help. It is greatly appreciated!

Here's a post with charging problems..viewtopic.php?t=17815
Reading through it,you will find the proper test method for the 2 parts and wires involved in the charging system...As always, split the system in half...verify first if the stator is working before going any further down the rabbit hole...
Address one problem at a time...Starting with the most important...ya gotta have enough electric to run the extra stuff.
