Front Fort Spring Length

Postby jayhawker » Tue Jul 21, 2015 11:30 pm

I have ran across another question that I need some advice on. My manual suggest that I measure the spring length for the two springs in each fork and if they are less than specs that I should replace them. How critical is that and what problems could I encounter should I go ahead and use them though they are a little shorter than what they should be. Could a spacer be installed between the two spring to bring the combined length in to tolerance. I don't want to do something that might make the bike unsafe, any suggestions.

Short = weak/worn out! Replace them. OEM springs are not that costly!
Shims won't help!

OEM Springs are not available for this bike and not sure that progressive makes them for the Aspencade limited as I haven't seen any on the sites I've looked at.

A few years back I had a similar issue. Some were suggesting shims from PVC pipe. I made a couple about 1" long and that was the last time I looked at that. Many miles since then, no issues. Don't do it if you don't think it's safe, it's just what I did.
