86 Interstate Going Naked

Postby Jim4541 » Sun Jul 26, 2015 12:37 pm

Hi All,

I'm in the process of converting an 86 Interstate to a naked GW.
I would appreciate any input of how to mount a standard false tank and how to get it to fit.
I'm not sure what year standard tank I found but it appears that I need to move some electronics.

Thanks a lot

Sadly the false tank, & SOOOOOOO many other's are 84 standard, single year & unique, :( taking an 1100 to a 1200 standard should be easier.Switch the ENTIRE front end, motor, swing arm back, with harness & its parts, to the 1100 frame. Then sell the extra parts on ebay to try to recoup some cash.

Thanks,

Maybe leaving the fairing and false tank in place for now would be best. And hope to find an 84 standard tank but not plan on it.

I wish you luck; They do exist, found my first one back in 98, looked till last year till another was found. Had to drive well over a hundred miles, & trailer it home as it was not safe to drive. Dealer took it in on trade on a crotch rocket, in really good shape BUT needed a lot of work as was let go for a good while & unsafe to drive, sold as is no guarantee of ANY kind. Well have almost three times what was paid for it in it, but still under three grand, everything but a new stator & its on the shelf waiting till its needed. Both run, stop, & handle, like new or better, am still looking for that 1100 to convert over to a 1200 standard. Still have most if not all the parts to convert, & just waiting on the right subject (can you spell cheap?) to come along.

Just what name implies, false; Tank is under the seat, false tank covers electrical connectors, glove box, & fill spout for gas tank.
