Drive shaft on the GL1200 has a spring and stopper washer at the end that goes into the u-joint. My Clymer manual says to leave off the stopper washer when reinstalling. To me that makes sense as the spring is unable to function as a spring with the washer in place. While another manual seems to say not to reinstall the stopper washer or spring when reinstalling the drive shaft which method is the right one?

According to the Honda service manual: there is supposed to be a spring then circlip then a "spring seat". All three are to be re-installed. Good luck!
