TEMPRATURE GAUGE ON 1984 ASPENCAD

Postby sinny73 » Fri Aug 14, 2015 12:05 pm

How many bars should show before the engine fan comes on? I just got this back together & running, it has gotten to 5 bars without the fan coming on. I'm not sure what is "normal" for this model. Thanks

You might want to double check your wire connectors at temp sending unit and at fan. When I put mine back together after replacing the stator I forgot to plug in the fan,of course I already had coolant in it,couldnt get my hands in there to reconnect without moving radiator out from frame. If there connected, try jumping wires at temp sending unit to see if fan comes on.If it does come on when jumping wires you may have a bad sending unit or air pocket in there. If it doesn't come on when jumping wires, start checking fuses.Good luck.

Fan came on today. Now on to the clutch slave cylinder.

I've always wondered about this. My temp gauge has never risen above 4 bars, the fan comes on at 3. I would also like to know if that is normal or it just reads low. I can tell you that when it is at 3 or 4 bars, the heat coming off this thing can be hard to take when moving slowly through downtown traffic. On the highway it's not so bad as the air is moving more. Generally, 3 bars on highway, rarely 4 and then 4 bars in slower traffic or climbing hills. Fan will be on.

My 86 Aspy also runs at three bars on the highway,4 in town or slow traffic.I agree, the heat that comes off it can be pretty intense when going slow.I think thats just the nature of the beast.Using the cruising pads really makes a huge difference for the heat feeling on shins.Especially if you're wearing shorts.
