No Headlight, bulb is good!

Postby pinktatoo » Fri Jul 09, 2010 9:41 am

We have a 1985 1200 and the headlight WAS working, then went out. Went to replace the bulb and found that the bulb is good, but no juice to the connector. Not sure where to look, all fuses are good. It seems like maybe something came unplugged but not sure how to find it!! HELP!!! :(

Well... there's a few things to check.
1st is the power to the headlight fuse. Check that there is power on both sides of the fuse.
2nd most common thing is the starter switch. The switch inside has a dual contact that shuts off the headlight when the starter button is pushed. When it's released the headlight is supposed to come back on. This is a possible 'clean up' with some very mild cleaner like the stuff designed for computers. Work the button when you spray it. Then blow it out with compressed air. I like using some silicon spray lube afterwards.

If that doesn't work then maybe the hi/low switch could be bad. Also the connection into the fairing itself might be bad if it's not a STD model.

It could also be that the headlight relay is stuck.
