leaking carb

Postby Slick Willi » Mon Aug 24, 2015 5:33 pm

After cleaning carbs on my 87 1200i, the tube between the tops of carbs #2 & #4 leaks gas after running for about 1 min. Any help would be most appreciated.

Sounds like the floats could be sticking or needles not seating properly. Did you change the float height while you had them apart?

Thank you for responding to my post. I tried not to change anything when cleaning. However, I did just remove and clean the jets, and ports. Also, the floats, and needles, as well as those ports. I then cleaned and inspected the slides. I did not however, boil the carbs. I now have removed the carbs again, and have found nothing wrong. ?????

Is it leaking from the upper crossover tube or lower one? It could be a bad o ring on the tube itself. The upper crossover is the overflow and it would only get fuel if the carb was just filling with gas and not stopping it. Oh also is it coming from the nipple on the tube or one of the ends?

The gas is coming out of the upper crossover. The gas is coming out of the nipple, and not the end. It certainly acts like the floats are not closing. However, when I took the floats out, I found no debris in the ports. Could anything other than floats cause gas to leak from this spot? btw, I do appreciate your time and help.

Sorry for taking so long to respond I've been moving and dealing with life haha. It sounds like the float needles are not shutting off the fuel for some reason. Does the rubber on the end of the float needles look ok? And I would double check the float heights just to be on the safe side.
