please any help would be appreciated on how to replace starter thumb switch.
I have a 84 Aspy. also if someone knows of a suitable replacement or aftermarket substitute for said switch.
That too would be helpful. Thank you. :?

I don't know that you can replace just the starter switch. I think the whole right handlebar module has to be done.
Have you tested it to make sure that it needs replacing and not just cleaning?
If it does need replacing, there is a guy parting out an '82 here that you might check with.

NVSB4 Thank you for the tips. I am not sure if the switch is bad. May just need taken apart and cleaned. The last owner cut the four wires that go to the module switch. he then attached to of those four wires to a toggle switch that is just hanging by the two wires. not sure where the other two wires go yet. At this point I am glad he didn't cut the two brake light wires. a possible good sign is that the original switch does click when pushed. keeping fingers crossed. Thank you again.

Rick,
There's a How-To on cleaning the switch here that might help you some.
It's for a 1500 and I'm not sure if there is a difference, but it's a start.

If you do find it needs replaced, I would look at finding a good used one rather than new. I have a friend who spent good money for a new part from a Honda dealer only to find it was a Honda part but it was made in china. He got it and said "hey look the button is almost purple" and I jokingly said"well maybe that is as close to red as they had in china". He then looked closer and found that it was indeed stamped "made in china". He then took the switch apart and took the broken plastic part he needed and put it in his stock switch.
