Coolant reservoir leak

Post by Pope82 » Thu Oct 08, 2015 5:52 pm

Is there any way to fix a leaky coolant reservoir ? My 1984 gl1200 aspencade is leaking coolant at a slow rate from around the center where the it bolts to the frame. I purchased a coolant reservoir off ebay and it is leaking in the exact same spot just not as badly . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a visible crack? I don't know what type of plastic the reservoir is made of, does it say anywhere on it? (i.e. ABS, PET, etc, or a "recycling" triangle with a number in the middle)

Yes sir, I have looked over the reservoir tank and it does not have any markings other than "upper" and "lower" for the coolant level. It is white plastic and if you hold it up in front of a light you can make out a small hair line crack that comes from the bottom of the metal where the bolt goes through it to the frame.

JB weld could be worth a try, it seems to work on most things

Jb weld seems to have worked. I have not had time to reinstall the tank on the bike but I pressure tested the tank with 5psi pressure and it seems to hold the pressure . thanks for the advice
