No electrical

Postby nedntrish » Tue Oct 20, 2015 6:45 pm

Ok here is a good one.

Motor runs fine. Radio and hazard flashers work normally. But...

No head light, no running lights, no turn signal, no break lights, no dash lights, and no dash equipment (it's a digital dash.). It's as if the bike is turned off.

I checked the fuse buss that is under the tank storage compartment. The AC terminals have power when the key is on but nothing to the fuses. I can jump power directly to any of the fuses and then everything lights up!

HELP!

I assume then that the power feeding the fuses you jump power to does not work. This leads me to the ignition switch.
Going from memory,I think there are multiple power wires coming from it.One of them failed.
There is a mention that the plug on the bottom of the switch has bad contacts,if there fine, the switch is suspect.
A schematic and test probe would be helpful at this point.
Sorry but my phone doesn't have either.

I had thought of that, but the radio does come on. But it is on a separate fuse bank located under the left pocket.

FOUND IT!!! There is two power lines that come into the fuse box. One is just for an user accessory terminal, that one powered up as normal. Then there is a second line that runs the bikes accessories (lights, horn, dash lights and gauges, and turn signals.). The connector terminal of all the wires went bad. I'll have to replace that connector.
