85 goldwing 1200 aspencade trike

Postby rowlingstone » Wed Oct 21, 2015 1:58 pm

Well I have decided to make a trike out of my 85 Goldwing aspencade 1200, and I have a chance to get a swingarm out of a 87 gl1200 Goldwing and I thought it would be good to have a good used one to do my welding on just in case anything went terribly wrong and I would still have my original swingarm to put it all back together with. My question is does anyone know if a swingarm off an 87 gl1200 Goldwing, is the same as my 85 1200 aspencades swingarm? If so I am going to get it cheap ( 20 bucks ) and use it to do my welding on to get the rear end set up for my trike build, and then I can keep my original swingarm just in case. Well does anyone know if the swingarm off the 87 gl1200 is the same as my 85 1200 aspencades swingarm, I have heard they are all the same from 84-87 but I want to be sure so I would feel a lot better knowing I hAVE the original still. so is there anyone out there that can help me with this. And as I build the trike, I will post pictures of it at every step showing my progress I am making, Thanks guys

The part number for the swingarm on both bikes is identical: 52120-ML8-670ZA - so yes, go nuts with your welder. :)

That's great I picked up the swingarm and driveshaft as spares, so if I wanted I could put it all back to two wheel again, plus I got my rear end from a salvage yard that's as close to the gear ratio as my Goldwing was I am going to cut down and I am going to start measuring and thinking this all over until I start cutting and welding, and with the help of a machine shop for cutting the axles down and maybe a driveshaft shop to balance out the driveshaft if I need it, and the same height tires and rims as the Goldwing had, then I think it will come together good, thanks for your help and I will post the step by step pictures when I get the process going !
