1200 saddlebag removle

Postby roadwanderer2 » Thu Nov 05, 2015 5:32 am

hey guys, i just acquired an 86 GL1200 aspencade SEi yesterday and im starting to work on it. i need to remove the left saddlebag, can someone point me in the right direction on how to remove it? its almost the same, but not quite the same as my 83 GL1100 saddlebags. it has a few bolts that i cant find especially the one on the bottom by the red lenses. how can i get to that without breaking anything?

any help will be greatly appreciated.

stuart.

It been a couple weeks. But lay on your back, (I prefer the carpet in my shop) The middle reflector on my 85 Aspy had two wing nuts to remove it. Behind it if not mistaken there was a screw in each saddle bag from there. If not there are other metal covers that can be removed to un plug lites etc. The key to this is under the rear part of the bike? Hope this helps.

He's close. Yes remove the two wing nuts behind that reflector. Then remove the rubber spacers between that and the saddle bags. under there on each side is a screw and fluted washer. Remove those. Then the 4 screws inside the saddle bag-2 on the bottom, 2 on the side. then unplug the wiring at the socket inside the large rubber 'tube' where they hid the connector. That's it.

Don't understand. Works for me. It is just a .pdf file of the 1200 service manual that should open even without downloading.

You don't have to print it out. After opening it you can download it to your computer. Click on the page marker with the down arrow at the top right. Off hand I'm not sure about the SEI being covered.
