how to reinstall lower fairing skirts on an 86 1200 SEi

Postby roadwanderer2 » Thu Nov 05, 2015 3:14 pm

does anyone have any diagrams for putting the lower fairings skirts,(the ones with the built in road lights) and the horn bracket locations? im trying to reassemble this bike. all the lower fairing parts were given to me in a box, and since i don't have a manual for this bike yet because i just got it yesterday, i have no idea where they bolt back up :?.

hey 97aspy, although i appreciate the pics and everything, i cant use them, they are not for the 86 SEi, you know, the one bike with all the "extra" lighting installed into the lower fairing skirts. here is a pic of the fairing pieces i have that i need to reinstall on both sides not including a few odd chrome pieces that i'll show pics for once i get these fairing parts put back on.

I believe the fairing lowers are almost the same except for a bracket on the area by the cornering light.
the panels with the screw hole mount covers the engine area between the fairing and side covers. they may be aftermarket I have them on my bike but have not seen them on any bike before your pics they also do not show up on parts pictures like whats in bike bandit.
as for the SEI supplement manual there is not a lot of help. that being said if I can find some time to take some pics of my SEI I could forward them to you.

hey plumbermullins, after looking at mervk's bike photos, i found out where those smaller plastic panels go, they are extra side covers that fit on each side of the engine, and the panels with the running lights bolt underneath the upper fairing. now i still have to figure out where the horn brackets bolt up to. from what i saw in a manual, (THANKS AGAIN MERVK :)) they bolt up behind the fairing onto the fairing support brace somewhere.

below is a photo of mervk's 86 Gl1200 aspencade SEi. notice where the smaller plastic panels are fitted just in front of the side covers. wish MY bike looked at pretty as his does .

That's a pic of a '85 Ltd (same design); still in a lurch?

hey wingin', no, its all back together now. im thinking about not using the extra side panels. i like having the motor showing. if someone wants to offer me a decent price for them, i'll consider selling them.

"... lower front cowling ...", Honda actually termed it "oil filter cover".

that's very interesting about what honda says the lower fairings are. no, i have them on my bike, they are held on by the upper screws and they actually don't move so im leaving them on until i can find another pair. i have seen a few on ebay and keeping my eye on them in hopes to find a couple of good ones at a decent price and hopefully the same color. if and when i do replace them, i'll let you know, but for now they are staying on my bike.

For keeping me in mind if/when you will transact on that item, you are a gentleman scholar sir (never to be publicly accused again - we wouldn't want people getting the wrong impression of you now would we).
