how to remove unwanted stickers from a bike's windshield

Postby roadwanderer2 » Mon Nov 09, 2015 7:27 am

does anyone know how to remove unwanted stickers from a bike's windshield. my "new-to-me" bike has college stickers on its windshield, you know, the kind that cars have on their rear window announcing what school or college the owner goes to. how can i remove them without doing any harm to the plastic windshield. it also has one on the trunk that i would like to take off. i tried a razor blade but im afraid it will leave scratch marks on the windshield and trunk.

any ideas would be very helpful.

Start with a blow dryer for hair, and warm the stickers, so they peal off reasonably nicely. Clean up the residual sticky stuff with vegetable oil or peanut butter.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Hello Everyone,
New guy here. This post caught my attention as I have just bought a New to me '94 GL1500.
The windshield had a for sale sign taped on with masking tape, which was sun-baked on. It wouldn't all peel off. I cleaned it all off using WD-40. It wasn't that hard to get off and came off quicker than I had expected. Some little tiny pieces I scraped off using my fingernail.
Immediately after removing all the tape, I washed the whole windshield down with Windex. Then I waxed it with spray furniture wax.
I don't know if masking tape and stickers use the same adhesive, but this worked for me without damaging my windshield. Good Luck!

hey there Oldzx, welcome to the site. here you will find that everyone is friendly and most everyone will have answers to most all of your questions and are willing to help you if you need anything, and we also LOVE PHOTOS :).

a word of caution, NEVER use ANY cleaner that was meant to be used on glass, i.e.: car widows or house windows on your plastic windshield, over time it will haze it and ruin it. get yourself a spray can of motorcycle windshield cleaner/polisher from your local Honda dealer or any "reputable" bike shop. it was made for cleaning plastic windshields, plus you can use it to clean and polish your entire bike.

Stuart, a.k.a. roadwanderer2.

Thanks for the tip Stuart. I got the WD-40 idea from another website when I was trying to figure out what to use on my windshield.
Anyhow, it worked for me. I may pay for it later when it starts hazing up but it's too late now, (and it looks better than the tape residue for the time being).
I'll pickup some windshield cleaner at Honda when I go to get a radio knob.

make sure you get the cleaner/polisher. if you don't see it on the shelf, ask for it. like I said earlier, you can use it to polish all your bike's plastics, mirrors and chrome too.
