1200 speedometer (cable)doesn't work and turn signal

Postby revdfmiii » Tue Jul 20, 2010 4:32 pm

My 1200 speedometer (cable) quit working suddenly. I noticed the self cancelling turn signals quit at the same time. I am trying to get the cable off, tuff to get too. Any suggestions on either problem? Thanks, Don

Most likely a broken speedometer cable. Have a look at: How to replace your speedometer cable

What is the part of the cable you're having trouble taking off?

you have to take off the windshield and front chrome piece you have to remove mirror to get the chrome off to get to the bolts to remove the headlight then the nuts to remove the dash so you can get your hand in behind the dash to turn the furrled nut off the cable the speaker covers and speaker bolt have to be removed also to get the plastic cover off the dash. get a shop manual to help you if you don't have one allready

Thanks. Not nearly as easy as my '77 and '81. Any ideas on why the self canceling turn signal quit?

Got the cable off. Seems to be ok. Did notice that what it attaches to at the front wheel seems to have some teeth missing, as it does not turn smoothly. How does this part get taken off for inspection/replacement?

If you remove the front wheel, the speedometer drive will pull right off the wheel hub.
