Gl1200 side covers

Postby Pope82 » Sun Nov 15, 2015 1:30 pm

I have a 84' gl1200a . I seen the 86' 1200's appear to have a cover on the side of the engine between the side cover and fairings. Can anyone tell me if the covers from the 86 would fit on the 84 and if any mods have to be made .

Do you mean the metal engine covers? if so those are aftermarket. I don't know of any covers on an 86 that are not on an 84

The #5 in the picture is the type of cover I was asking about. I have seen the after market metal engine covers but I would rather have something I can have painted to match the rest of my bike.

Agreed, I like the look and couldn't find them for my '86 Aspy when I had it.

My only concern would be that there would be no place for the hot air to escape as easily. Bikes these days that have all the tupperware are designed that way. Hot days your fan would be running 24-7? Just my .02 cents.

I had the same temp concern before putting them on, but it has never been an issue for 20+ years

Thoses covers were made by Markland and are no longer made . I have a pair on my bike and never have a problem with heat. If you find a pair (in good shapewith all the mounting hardware) it won't be cheap. I paid around 400.00 for mine BUT I have an LTD you might get some for a little less

i have a pair of those from my 86 SEi that are in near perfect condition, (only things i don't have on them are the rubber moldings and the "push pins") that i have no intentions of using. knowing how "rare" they are, (and what they are worth) i'm willing to sell them to someone for $100.00 for the pair plus shipping. they aren't going to do me any good letting them "sit on a shelf" in my garage collecting dust while someone else can get some use out of them. the color of them are Pearl Splendor Ivory.

let me know if anyone is interested in them.

If by "pushpins" you mean the 1/4 turn fastener (plastic), they are available from the company that makes them.
