trunk bumper lights blinking left to right on my 86 1200 SEi

ok, here's a question. while i was working on my bike today rewiring the trunk bumper light bar, i had the ignition switch turned on for a while so i could check to make sure all the lights were working, and i noticed that the light bar on the trunk where the word "aspencade" is was constantly blinking from side to side, and i could hear what sounds like a signal flasher clicking from the rear of the bike only while the ignition switch was on. are they suppose to blink as a "safety feature" from side to side or do i have a short somewhere in the trunk lights. when i tried the turn switch, the regular signals all function normally, but the trunk lights still blink.

anyone have any ideas?

ok, here's what i found...after trying to figure out how to get behind the "aspencade" light bar without having to remove the trunk, trunk bumper/light bar and trunk bumper, i unscrewed the bottom of the trunk panel and was able to slightly pull down on it revealing a signal flasher someone put inside it, i removed the flasher, unbeknownst to me i had no stop lights. so after using a "test light" to try to find the stop light wires that go to the rear stop light, i couldn't find them, so what i did was tied the 2 light wires the ran from the "aspencade" light bar together using a butt connector, ran a heavy duty wire up thru the frame, under the false tank shelter, up to the front brake light switch wires and tied into the one g/y wire that ran off the switch. NOW i have the "aspencade" light lighting up AND it also works as my stop lights along with the stop lights that are on the lower saddlebags. seems that the bulbs that are in there are 1157's so they work as tandem tail/stop lights.

another job well done by "jobs well done" :D

stuart.
