Auxiliary air compressor

Postby Pope82 » Sat Dec 05, 2015 6:54 pm

Can anyone tell me if there is a modifiction that can been done that would allow the auxiliary air compressor on my 1984 gl1200a to operate while the bike is running not just in park. I have already installed a poorboy kit on my bike.I am about to install a cigarette lighter socket so I can use a 12 volt air compressor if needed but was curious if anyone has done the mod before or if it is too much hassle.

It would probably be easier and cheaper to just get a small Slime air compressor to keep in the saddlebag than to modify the system.

Tell us : whilst running down the road... Whatever would you want to inflate ? The shocks ?

Those on-board air pumps are tiny and fragile ... For all other uses ( Tires, air mattresses ) I use a small portable cigarette lighter air compressor ( about $11 from Can Tire )

I think that since he mentioned the alternator conversion, he was more worried about running down the battery with the bike not running and charging.
I still think the portable compressor would be the way to go.
