it would be more helpful if you can tell us where you took it out of and what the part number is.

That spring and collars are a part of the front fork mechanism.Sense I didn't design this,I can only suspect that its a integral part of the fluid dampening control.Keep it OEM.

OK. Don't need parts just have apat for seals and refresh just curious. Just like to know what stuff is and what it does, nothing mechanical hooked to it so Yea your probably right. I,m guessing original fork oil ( black and only maybe 2 Oz. Instead of the 11 it calls for. The darn thing handled pretty nice for all the things wrong, can hardly wait to try out the rebuild in spring, wheel brgs were poached, one axel cap on reverse.

Virgil, your just about right on with your assumptions. that rod is called a damper rod and that small spring is called a rebound spring. unfortunately my parts catalog calls them different things.

Finally found out what the device actually does .. It is called a anti lock device in my clymers manual , and is on all machines with the anti dive front forks. The mechanism is designed that when the brakes are applied and the anti dive unit is working , if suddenly the front wheel hit a pot hole , instead of being more solid from the anti dive the quick pressure change inside the fork tubes makes the spring device move relieving the internal pressures and allowing some of the fork oil to bypass allowing tubes extra movement . Thanks for the input . Just thought someone might care . geraldm.
