on board compressor

Postby maestro319 » Wed Jul 28, 2010 4:17 am

Just wondering...what is the "on board compresssor" for?? What is it supposed to do for you, the rider?? Is it used to adjust the ride?...pump up tires?? What??
My ride is an'86 1200 Aspencade. it has the compressor, but I havn't used it 'cuz I don't know how, when, or why. The guy who delivered it to me said he likes his ride soft, but maybe I'd like a harder ride so he hit a button and I could actually see the front end of my bike rise. Ok...now what?? Sorry, but I am new at this.

Yes it's to adjust your ride. I have a 1500 so the operation of yours will be different. I am positive of the purpose though.

The compressor should only be run (on the 1100 and 1200, at least) when the bike is on the center stand. You shouldn't be able to see it "rising up" as you pressurize it - that's a good way to end up blowing out your fork seals.

Whoa!! Scary thought. Thanks for the info . Guess I should read the manual all the way through. This is a GREAT website/forum. Lots of knowlegeable people here. I have many novice questions now and know I will have many more as I ride more so it's good to know this website is here. I read it every day, sometimes 3,4 5, 6... times a day!!
