Repairing RR lower shock mount

Postby twocams » Sat Jan 30, 2016 10:10 pm

The head was buggered up on the RR lower shock bolt. Looked like someone had used a crescent wrench more than once. So I ordered a new one. But didnt bother checking the inner threads on the differential while I had it out for relube. All the threads were stripped. So I bought a heli coil kit for $29. Retaped the hole ( with tap from kit) and inserted the heli coil (8x 1.25) used red lock tight to lock in place.
May have been off a mm cause I had to torque the bolt to 25 ft lbs. before it would seat properly. Should have only taken 17 ft lbs.but that was because it was aluminum. But the heli coil is steel. looks good should last a long time.

I think it will be better than new. Probably what Honda should have done in the first place.
