Postby Geofd » Fri Feb 12, 2016 7:46 pm

Ok..... I have a chance to trade for a
1986 interstate with 40k lots of upgrades including new tires I'm reading a lot about wobbles well
I had an old bmw and went into a 70 mph wobble with painfully results
Sometimes on the highway(on another bike I do rest my left hand....I read
For the most part these wobbles are at
Low speeds and retry controllable it's a beautiful bike is this something that should make me pass on it or have all the things mentioned checked out some here say they have done that and nothing was found just looking for some expert advice again it's a beautiful bike
I have. victory v92 (2002) it's nice just not me again thanks

I would say wobbles can be fixed unless it has been wrecked at sometime. Mileage sounds good. if it's what you want I would trade. They are still great old bikes and will outlast the V92 im thinkin.

yep the common wobble, usualy comes in at around 20 to 25kph, and needs one hand to taken off the handle bars, putting hands back on the bars stops it. There a quite few factors which can cause it, steering head bearings, forks, trailing arm etc, but the main culprit, is worn front or rear tire.

I guess I'm pretty bais, lol but I would not even consider the wobble, if I was buying a goldwing.

Just want to make sure I make the right decision I talked to the owner and he has not experienced the wobble I had a high speed wobble at 70 mph with terrible results but I have read a lot about this seems like its mostly happens when your hands are off the bars and if you go thru the front end and rear tire should be ok

I totally understand your hestation, being thrown off at 70mph would not have been very pleasant to say the least, I got tossed off a triumph 650 at 6omph, when a front tire blew. but it would take something pretty serious to go wrong, for a wing to produce something like that. in 10 years I've never experienced anything like that on my wing, they are in my opiinion a great ride.

as previously said the slow speed wobble mostly talked about is very easy fix.

good luck with your decision
